Privacy Policy

Langismo is a free desktop app with no account, no login, and no subscription. This policy covers the small amount of data it does touch.

Usage statistics

With your permission (on by default, toggle it off anytime in Options → Share anonymous usage statistics), Langismo periodically sends a small, anonymous usage report to our server — roughly once a month, only if you've actually used the app since the last report.

Each report contains only:

• Counts of how often you opened the app, loaded a video, and used automatic translation (broken down by free local translation vs. AI translation)
• Your country, resolved from your IP address at the moment of the upload — the IP address itself is never stored or logged, only the resolved country

That's it. No device ID, no install ID, no account, no personal information, and no way to tell your data apart from anyone else's or to link separate reports together. We use this purely to understand which features are worth improving.

Your content and API keys

Langismo is bring-your-own-key (BYOK): you provide your own API key for an AI provider (Anthropic, Gemini, or DeepSeek) and, optionally, Azure Speech. Your key is stored encrypted on your own computer and is never sent to us.

When you use a feature that needs AI — translation, dictionary lookups, grammar, idioms, chat, or premium text-to-speech — the relevant text is sent directly from your computer to the provider you chose, using your key. We never see it, and it never passes through our servers. That data is subject to your chosen provider's own privacy policy, not ours.

Automatic video-mode translation, when available for your language pair, instead uses a free local translation model that runs entirely on your own computer — nothing is sent anywhere for that.

YouTube content

Video mode fetches video metadata and captions directly from YouTube. That's subject to YouTube's own terms and privacy policy, not ours.

Local data

Anything you save — texts, videos, words, idioms — is stored in a local database on your own computer. It's never uploaded, synced, or visible to us.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date.
